As Told Over Brunch is a home for intelligent discourse from the twenty-something perspective - so the stuff you gossip about over mimosas on Sunday morning or over takeout on your friend's couch when happy hour ends too early. We love chatting about our lives, whether it be the relationships we’re building (or destroying), lessons we've learned at work, struggles at school, growing pains we've felt, or even the food we’re talking over.
I spent a lot of time in the car recently on a trip up to celebrate my grandad's 88th birthday. Along the way, I spent quite a bit of time rocking out to country stations, because nothing says road trip like some sweet country tunes. Then came on Dierks Bently's, "Different for Girls," song.

Read MoreA year or so ago, I wanted to vomit when I heard of a zoo abroad that killed a perfectly healthy giraffe because it was too inbred and they didn't want him to mate with anyone. Apparently, he was rendered useless because he couldn't be used to procreate. So they chopped him up to bits in front of a crowd and called it research. Oh, and then fed his body to lions.
More recently, a guy threw himself into a lion's cage as an epic suicide attempt. Rather than letting a man with a suicide note in his back pocket die as he wished, they killed the lions who probably were hoping to still be alive.

They don't take reservations, but we had called ahead to see if there was a long wait. We were the first in line, and waited no more than 15 minutes before being sat at the back of the restaurant. It's a small place, with adorable wall decorations and mis-matched coffee mugs.
When I moved from Connecticut to James Madison University, there were a few foods I really, really missed. As in, I was almost as homesick for certain foods as my family. But now, I too can appreciate some Southern food.
