WIN Detergent: Let’s Practice Safe Washing!

By now, readers should know I’m a sweater. No matter what I do, no matter how slow I walk or the least amount of clothes I wear, I find my glands firing away at the most inopportune times. This is why I jumped at a chance to review WIN Detergent. WIN Detergent is a (wait for it) detergent that specializes in removing odors and oils from synthetic workout gear.

I used to simply wash all my clothes together. Sure, my mom taught me about separating colors, and new red clothes should never ever be washed with whites, but then you live in a college dorm, only have so much spare change, and definitely don’t have time for multiple loads.

Then a few months ago, my mom gave me a specialized detergent meant for workout clothes. Apparently, regular detergent doesn’t cut it for removing odors from clothes, especially the ones you work out in.

Me: “Mom, are you saying my clothes smell?”

Mom: “Well…”

Me: “I’m offended you’ve misled me for this long.”

Disclaimer: My mom only washes my clothes for me when I’m home for the holidays. I am an adult.

Since this revelation, I began using the specialized detergent she bought me for my workout gear (whose name won’t be revealed here, because that’s not what I’m reviewing). Honestly I didn’t see or smell any major difference. Of course, I hadn’t thought or noticed my clothes smelling before, but I also am not great on details like. Maybe they did smell, maybe they didn’t (I’m in this camp), but it’s best to be preventive. Let’s practice safe washing!

My mom also told me to use the specialized detergent sparingly because “it’s expensive.”

Me: “But if I smell…”

Then I saw this opportunity to try WIN Detergent, which seems to be the leading brand for fighting odors and oils in workout gear. Why? Well, most workout gear is made of synthetic fibers that repel water (aka sweat), and that’s why we wear synthetic clothes while working out. The flip side of this is, however, the fibers attract oils from your skin, which bacteria devour and ultimately causes the sweaty smell. P.U. (Have you ever been stuck in a grocery line behind someone with BO? I have PTSD from remembering such instances.)

Thankfully, there’s WIN, which breaks the bond between your skin’s oils and the synthetic fibers, thus conquering and removing the source of the odors. Most regular detergents lack this property. This also allows your clothes to perform better and last longer.

WIN shipped me two bottles of their magic potion, WIN Green and WIN Blue. WIN Green is the fragrance-free and dye-free version for people with sensitive skin or noses. Aka me. My skin used to break out in high school from using the wrong type of soap. Even better, WIN Green has been awarded the EPA’s “Safer Choices” seal. Like I said, let’s practice safe washing!

Both WIN Green and WIN Blue are the same price. And you can get $1 off your first bottle of WIN using the promo code EVERYWIN at checkout on Amazon.com.

My "this stuff really works" face.

I experimented with both detergents. I’m more partial to WIN Green since I’m prone to breakouts from fragrances. I had plenty of workout gear to test the magic, WINning formula on. So I separated my synthetic workout gear from my regular laundry (so everything I work out in minus socks), washed them on normal, and then tumble dried them. Afterward, I buried my nose into the freshly washed clothes.

And smelled nothing.

Which is exactly what the goal was.

So that’s a WIN. Next time you’re buying detergent, think about all your stinky workout gear (especially in these summer dog days!) and grab a bottle of WIN Detergent to fight the smells. And don't forget the promo code EVERYWIN on Amazon for a $1 off!

Disclosure of Material Connection: I received WIN Detergent for free from WIN in consideration for a gear review.
