As Told Over Brunch

Richmond Brunch Weekend 2017 Recap

It's been almost three months since Richmond Brunch Weekend, and we figured it's about time to let you know how the weekend went! We're always surprised by how long it takes to wrap up things between digesting all the pancakes we ate, liking everyone's #RVABrunchWeekend posts, and waiting for checks in the mail.

We already know the weekend was a blast, thanks in no small part to our presenting sponsor OrderUp, the 30 restaurants that participated this year, and all the people who showed up for brunch March 24-26, 2017! We also have to give a special shout out to our partner for this event, the Massey Alliance.

For the last two years we've partnered with the Massey Alliance to put on Richmond Brunch Weekend. Last year we raised close to $12,000 for VCU Massey Cancer Center and had 24 participating restaurants. You can read more about 2016 here.

This year we had even more restaurants, more sponsors, and we had an inaugural kickoff event at Southern Railway Taphouse where even the mayor dropped by (nice seeing you, Mayor Stoney!). And (drumroll, please):

We raised over $14,000!

All of the money raised goes directly back to VCU Massey Cancer Center and supports cancer research, patient treatment, and increasing awareness of Massey nationally and in the Richmond community. In other words, all that brunching helps save lives.

We also learned a lot this year. We're so glad for all the people who ordered a "You Had Me At Brunch" t-shirt, and we hope to bring that back next year! We also were delighted with how our kickoff event went (thanks to everyone who showed up), and we can't wait to see where it goes next spring.

We are also eternally grateful to our restaurants who participated and promoted the weekend (and everyone else who did so, too!). We worked hard this year to have Richmond Brunch Weekend be the same at every restaurant. We were super happy for how many restaurants put forward unique dishes just for the weekend. We admit we tried having a "Best Brunch Dish" competition, but the Facebook poll votes were a little low for us to dub that winner... And people want to order what they want to order; we can't blame them.

Again, we can't thank everyone enough - our partners, our sponsors, our restaurants, and our brunchers! We were overwhelmed by the media coverage this year from 8News, CBS6, Richmond Magazine, Let's Share a Dish, Sweet Sauce Blog, and all the tweets and Instagrams! We also want to give shout outs to our event photographer Caiti Garter and our band, Suzie and the G-Tones.

We're already planning for next year's brunch weekend! Stay tuned (and hungry).
