Checking In On My 2018 Trailer
At the end of last year, I wrote a blogpost called “My Trailer for 2018.” It was supposed to be a prediction of moments that would happen in my coming year. As we close the first half of 2018, I figured I’d review the moments and see what’s happened so far and what is still to come.
Me holding a puppy in my arms. – Yes, this happened in March. Here’s a photo.
Me crying. Just kidding. I wouldn’t cry! My eyes are wet. We don’t know why. – Well, now I know why. But I didn’t cry.
Me on a date (or at least it looks like a date! There are candles and we are seated across from each other!). – This has happened. There’s arguably several places with candles she and I have been.
A tarot card is placed on the table. It is the Sun. The music builds. – Hmm. I need to go visit a psychic in the next six months.
A crying baby. I also hope this is not mine. – Spoiler, it’s not mine. But I’ve seen a crying baby this year.
Me pondering how to tell someone to f*ck off in an email. – This happens every day.
Me with a new haircut—or is it a new haircut?! – Has happened. Unless another haircut is coming that’s more telling. A friend remarked to me recently, “I keep forgetting you got a haircut.”
Clouds. – I’m not sure if this has occurred. Just kidding.
Portuguese streets. Waves pounding on a shore. – OMG. Cascais and Sintra! This so happened. I saw the edge of the known world at Cabo De Roca in January.
A jet flying over Spain! – These happened back to back.
The Paris airport. – This happened on my way to Portugal!
Champagne on a French balcony. Friends laughing! (Yes, this movie is going to have a happy ending. Right?!) – Well. Well, well, well. I did not make it to France in March. I did not laugh. I have had friends be in France. Maybe this was a cutaway scene? Maybe I’m still going to France this year?!
Beaming on a gray morning. – Happened.
Trudging down Massachusetts Avenue in Cambridge, MA. – Happened second week of February.
Me chewing my cheek in front of a picture window. – Pretty sure this has happened.
My bird hissing in her cage. – Lol every time I go home and visit my cockatiel.
A birthday dinner for a friend. Everyone sings. – Yup, been there, done that.
A new email in my inbox. I sit down quickly to read it. – Yes. But maybe a different email is coming.
Me saying, “If you can’t forgive them, then you have to forgive yourself.” – So this hasn’t happened exactly, but I’m somewhat moved I predicted this. I have thought this to myself lately.
Celebrating a friend’s breakup. – Erm. Not quite yet.
Violence. – Nope, not yet.
A friend crying. We won’t name names! – Yes. I still won’t name names.
A tree with branches stretching into the sky. – Duh.
Cirrus clouds. – This is a give me.
My roommate laughing in our kitchen. – Almost every night.
Sara in a dress about to go to a party or an awards banquet. I wonder where?! – Yes! I don't remember where she was going though.
Brunch laid out on a restaurant table. – Lol! Every Saturday?
A croissant in my hand. – This morning.
Latte art. – A café in Philadelphia.
My passport being stamped. – Me departing Cuba.
Me standing alone in the airport. (Drumbeats enter stage right.) – Plenty of times. Didn’t actually hear drumbeats though.
Driving down 460 West. – This happened two weeks ago. My brother drove. But we were going east. Hmm!
Splashing in the James River. – You know it’s true!
Legs intertwined in a bed. (We have to get that PG-13 rating!) – No comment.
Someone tells a bartender, “Shaken, not stirred.” I follow: “Moscow Mule, please.” – Well, I get a Moscow mule pretty much every time I go to a bar now, so…
Mike Pence on TV. – Unfortunately.
CNN announcing election results. A crowded bar staring at the screen. – November!!
Someone asks, “What are you doing after you graduate?” - HAHAHAHAHAHA
My hand reaching out to turn a door handle. – This is the most vague scene ever, but has definitely happened.
Blades of grass coming in and out of focus. – Yeah. I was probably lying in the grass on my iPhone X.
Me sitting in a group interview and the head interviewer asks, “Where do you see yourself in five years?” – I got asked this this week, but not in a group interview setting. I didn’t have an answer.
A shot of me running down the sidewalk, eyes ahead, earbuds in. Where am I going?! – For a run, duh.
Okay, I'm excited for the next six months. There are a few things that haven't happened yet - and maybe there's even a new trailer about to drop?! Just kidding, I won't subject you all to that.
