Sometimes I just don’t quite know what to do with my day. And then there’s other days where I know what I want to do with my day, but know that it’ll be a money-suck. Those are the times I’m notorious for pulling out my phone and browsing Groupon Things to Do.

You might remember my list of absurd impulse buys I’ve made on Groupon, but sometimes it can also be a really good tool for finding something to do around town. They have all sorts of bargains, like Cazey’s beloved Paint Nite and my mom’s dream Segway tours (which we still haven’t done yet) to restaurant deals (that’s how Cazey and I often pick our dinner locations, shout-out to the Ethiopian place we discovered because of Groupon) and haircuts.

I also have to attribute my success at entertaining visitors in Richmond to Groupon Things to Do. When I first moved to the Richmond, I was browsing Groupon looking for something to get us out of the house and bought a ticket to the Riverfront Canal Cruise Tours. Since that initial Groupon, I have brought most of my guests on the cruise because it’s a nice way to be outside, learn some history and have a relaxing day.

Even when I don’t buy the Groupon for a specific activity, it’s a great way to navigate the city, or a city I’m visiting, for ideas of what to do. For example, when we were looking for a work team outing, I found an Escape Room Groupon, which was an idea I presented months later, even when the Groupon offer expired. It’s like Yelp, but with more savings opportunities.
