For those of you who are new to our blog or Richmond Brunch Weekend, here’s the deal.

Five years ago, Cazey and I made a Facebook event called ‘Richmond Brunch Weekend.’ In full transparency, we had no idea what we were doing (or even what our plan was). Soon thereafter, the Massey Alliance reached out to us to see if we’d want to partner. The Massey Alliance is the young professional board that advocates and fundraises for VCU Massey Cancer Center.

Having lived in Richmond for any amount of time, we knew Massey was a big deal. Of course the answer was yes. We met with a small group of young professionals and soon got to work. We were knocking on restaurant doors, sending out copious emails and making phone calls. We got 24 restaurants on board and raised thousands of dollars for cancer research.

From there, each year we’ve gotten bigger and better, introducing more restaurants (and even brunch-themed ice cream bars from Nightingale) in a wider area, found some amazing sponsors and reached more people to get them involved in lifesaving cancer research.

In our first four years, we’ve raised over $90,000

This year, we’re back with the same mission to raise as much money as we can for cancer research at a nationally ranked cancer institute. But we need your help! Here are a few ways you can make a difference.

Brunch with us on March 21 + 22

Please make sure you check our website to see which restaurants are participating and try to make reservations (you can do so directly through the restaurant of your choice). Then just order and enjoy! We encourage you to thank the local restaurant who is donating 15 percent of their proceeds to cancer research.

If you’re a local restaurant, join us!

To participate, all it takes is committing to donate 15 percent of sales to VCU Massey Cancer Center during the weekend. For more information and to sign up, fill out our simple form.

If you’re a business, join us!

We have varying levels of sponsorship available, which will be a tax-deductible gift to help lifesaving cancer research. You’ll get to join us on our table tents at all restaurants, website (with a backlink to your website!) and social media exposure. Reach out to rvabrunchweekend@gmail.com for more information.

Make a donation to VCU Massey Cancer Center

The Massey Alliance launched a new membership program. If you’d like to make a donation to cancer research, have networking opportunities with young professionals in Richmond, receive quarterly newsletters, get early invites to our event and volunteer opportunities, simply make a donation of $25 or more to the Massey Alliance. You don’t even have to wait for brunch weekend, you can make your donation now.
