Brunch Review: Lamplighter Roasting Company

Sometimes I wonder how many times I’ve tweeted about coffee. It’s probably enough that Starbucks is considering hiring me as a brand ambassador. Except maybe not Starbucks, since I don’t have a lot of horribly nice things to say about their Flat White. But anyways, my veins are composed of the usual stuff, like blood, but probably also infused with either alcohol or coffee in a rotating pattern depending on day of the week and time of day.

There’s almost no point whatsoever talking to me before drinking coffee – just ask my roommate. Or my boss, who kicked off a Monday morning with, “Tell me what you learned last week at the training,” before my daily cup of joe. For that matter, before my bag was even shrugged off my shoulder. However, not the point.

Cazey Made Me Take a Personality Test and Now My Life Makes Sense

As you've probably been able to tell at this point in our blogging careers (can we use the word careers if we're doing this out of passion and not getting paid for it?), Cazey was a busy guy in college. He eventually became a leader in several organizations on campus, and one encouraged him to take personality tests. He talks about these tests frequently, but I blew him off for years.

I couldn't decipher the difference between personality tests and horoscopes. Both could be right by simply stating enough general traits that at least some will apply to you. I've read my horoscope before, and I barely think I'm making up that my daily horoscope once was, "Some days are better than others." Thanks for that deep insight, I feel like I know myself better now. So why bother taking a useless personality test to get the same general results?

I'm Not Impressed With Your Netflix

It's all the new rage in dating. Apparently all the guys will offer it. And I'm only assuming they offer it because girls agree to it.

Rather than offering to take me to dinner, drinks, coffee, a walk, a hike, a kayaking adventure, a theme park, a play, a concert, a sporting event, a museum, a beach or any of the seemingly endless other fun opportunities that this world has graced us with, guys these days like to seduce women with their Netflix account.

Brunch Review: Tupelo Honey Cafe

Several (maybe more than several) months ago, my roommate and I went to visit my sister in Charlotte, North Carolina. While down there, my sister took up to a really great brunch spot. So great, that I have sporadically tweeted about that one time I ate there months ago since then. I have been waiting my fair turn to get to go back. And then Jesus – or a person named Avery, who is basically a brunch Jesus – answered my prayers/tweets.

The restaurant of my brunch dreams was opening about an hour and a half away from me, and they wanted me to come up for brunch. Praise be. My immediate response was, “Do you need me right now? I can be there right now. I’ll just come now and wait outside,” but was able to gather myself and articulate my excitement in a way that (hopefully) didn’t make me seem obsessed.

Brunch Review: F.W. Sullivans

I have a hit list of places I want to brunch at in Richmond, and F.W. Sullivan's has been one since following them on Instagram. Not only do they appear to have a variety of types of meals, ranging from steak to burgers to pasta dishes and flatbreads, but they deliver (except not for brunch, which I think would be beyond clever). I used that delivery option once for dinner, and felt a bit bad about it, as it was one of the coldest days of the year and the poor bastard biked our food to us. Anyways, not the point of this post. Back to brunch.

In all honesty, we were trying to go to Sidewalk, but then it was unreasonably busy, so we went to Sully's. It was perfectly not swamped, and we got right to a table. Before ordering, a waitress brought us a mimosa that we didn't order, then realized we were new here. She then came back to take our drink order -- just coffee and water (too tired/hungover for some mimosas, who knew that was possible).

Punta Cana: A Guilt Trip in Paradise

As I'm sitting on the plane, peeling and satisfied from a week in the Dominican Republic, I am conflicted on my sentiments toward the trip.

I spent five days and six nights in Punta Cana and the Majestic Elegance Resort, which is nothing short of paradise.

Does Roller Lash from Benefit Live Up to its Solid Marketing?

I was given a free sample because I'm a Klout influencer. I am under no obligation to receive the sample or talk about this company. I get no additional benefits for talking about the product or company.

I recently got a free sample of Benefit's Roller Lash mascara in the mail, and was pretty excited from the moment I opened it. They sent along two small free samples (for friends) and one big tube of mascara (for me), plus a photo frame that I will not be using. The packaging was pretty trendy, mixing light green and pink with a cute puppy getting its hair done. Overall, the entire package set me up to believe this was going to be a successful free sampling.

Brunch Review: Richard Walker's Pancake House

Week two of my San Diego brunch reviews! If you missed last week, I was at Queenstown Public House for one meal. For my other brunch, I went to Richard Walker's Pancake House. My grandparents used to live in San Diego, and my mom recommended Richard Walker's to me. She even gave the the inside scoop: go Friday because it'll be too busy Saturday. Good thing I actually listened to her this one time, because I went around 9:45am on Friday, and it was still busy.

They are so busy in fact that it's totally normal to queue up a line outside, hand out menus and have people wait their turn to dine. Why? Because Richard Walker's is delicious and totally worth it.
