Brunch Review: Miss Shirley's Cafe

I've never really questioned where my fondness for brunch comes from, but I am now certain I know my answer. It's my grandparents. With a rivaling passion to my own weekend planning, my grandparents were determines to bring my sister and me to one of their favorite brunch spot in Annapolis: Miss Shirley's Cafe.

We walked the block (in a light rain) to Miss Shirley's and were greeted by a bunch of open tables. Apparently it gets rather busy, so we went around 8:00 AM. My first impression was that the host was friendly, the decorations were orange and the place was large.

Youth, Tinder, and All of the Above

I preface this post by alerting the reader to two things:

1.)     I look younger than my age.

2.)     I often have a sense of a humor that no one else gets. Or at least they laugh a lot less loud than I do.

On the former, I have a brother who is five and a half years younger. When I return home, the lady at our local Chinese restaurant inevitably asks, “Are you the young one or the old one?”

The $8 Shirt From China

I like buying unique clothes. This doesn’t mean I follow the way of Lady Gaga and wear meat shirts, but I’m drawn to asymmetrical shirts and coolly patterned pants. This has led me to online shopping. American in-store fashion tends to be very square while I prefer other types of quadrilaterals – even ones with tangents and asymptotes.

This has led to online shopping. One store I frequent is ASOS where I bought the shirt below. It’s hard to tell, but it’s a gray tee with an overlaid black piece that is not, unfortunately or not, stitched down. Aka if I move too fast, which I tend to do when walking, it flaps like a cape. But it has a cool textured appearance and, most importantly, is unique.

The Solution to My Overly Frugal Fashion Problems

I won $100 at work, but they couldn't hand me cash for tax purposes, so I got a $50 gift card to H&M and a $50 to Target. That way, I would force myself into buying clothes, but I could also be practical at Target. I legitimately laid in bed one day on the Target website and brainstormed what I'd like to buy. I decided on tampons, a hamper and mouthwash. Let's just breeze over the fact that it took me hours of thinking to decide on those three items and move on to an even bigger problem.

I had $50 to H&M. That gift card was almost guaranteed to spend itself. Until it didn't. I picked out a bright pink top (trying to expand my colors in my wardrobe), a flowy summer top (it was on sale for $2) and a blue sweater that sat like a tent on my body but had tigers on it (because it had tigers on it, duh). It cost me $25 total.
